The Truth About The Launchpad And Agency Clarity

When I decided to build The Launchpad, I really had no idea how I was going to build it. I had just sold Stodzy and I was reluctant to take on any new projects, considering I still had plenty of work on my plate with my portfolio companies. But I knew that if I sat on the idea for too long, nothing would ever materialize.

I would end up in the same position that almost all wannabe entrepreneurs end up, which is to be with an idea and a plan, but never with a business.

That’s the whole reason why I put The Launchpad on presale in the first place. Because I knew that if people started buying the presale offer, then I would need to get my ass in gear and start creating the product.

So that’s what I did.

And guess what? My offers still aren’t fully complete. In fact, I’ve been building out the courses right alongside the customers for the past 5 months. Every day, I work on my product little by little, and I publish new lessons as soon as I can.

I’ve discovered this to be a really great method in product creation. In fact, I think I’ve come up with a bit of a cheat code.

Live Feedback From The Market To Improve Your Offers

Every time I publish a new course lesson or record another live coaching call, I get feedback from the students. I can find holes in my programming that I didn’t see.

Here’s why that’s valuable.

Anytime I’ve created digital products in the past, I always published the product, but then as time went on, I would see ways I could have done it differently. For example, I would notice a small tip I wish I had added to a particular lesson, or I’d realize that if I had ordered the material differently, the impact would have been more meaningful.

Everything is like this. You always see things you wish you did slightly differently in hindsight.

Well, this “building in public” method makes it so you can get the feedback as you record and publish your lessons. This ensures that your students and customers are showing you the gaps in your material so that you can easily course correct before you’ve gone too far.

What’s more is that the constant feedback gives me a platform to constantly make improvements. So it’s as if my product (meaning the membership as a whole) will never truly be finished, because there will always be feedback and there will always be a small improvement I can make.

The Trick Is To Combine Speed And Patience

I think getting older helps with this.

When I was 23, I was in such a rush. For some reason, I felt like time was running out, as though I only had a few weeks to live.

(Considering my terrible addiction to snorting Oxys and Adderall, that wasn’t far off from the truth. I had developed quite the knack for overdosing alone in my living room in my northeast Philly apartment and somehow waking up a few hours later still breathing. I’m talented, I know.)

Now that I’m almost 40, I feel like I am just getting started. As if there is more than enough time to accomplish all my dreams, see the world, sleep, do my hobbies, and hang out with my family. I got nothing but time.

Life is strange like that.

The patience that I have been slowly (very slowly) learning in my life has made it a lot easier to do big things, because I realize that slow and consistent is better than fast and messy.

So when building this new company, I act fast and I receive slow. I work with urgency, but I practice patience with the results.

It’s working. The community is thriving. People say they appreciate the honesty, the rawness, and the willingness for me to continuously iterate and improve.

It’s a win win. The customers get the absolute best out of me, and I get to build a business that I would have been otherwise too afraid or too reluctant to start.

Speed plus patience is a winning combination.

As I’ve discovered this new method, I wish so badly that I could show it to others, because I see how much other people want to launch an idea, or create a product, or start a side hustle, and they simply cannot muster the courage to start.

Because in their minds, starting means starting with some sense of completion.

Whereas I’ve discovered that the true path to success is starting from zero and then building your masterpiece in front of other people, one brick at a time. It means dealing with the discomfort of never truly feeling like you can relax, while simultaneously embracing the freedom that imperfection grants you.

Yes, you can sell an unfinished piece of work. Yes, you can get better over time and increase your prices as you improve. Yes, you can be completely up front and honest and say “Hey, I am building a thing. Please pay me this very low price so that you have access to the finished product forever.”

It doesn’t have to be that complicated. It’s simple, but not easy.

Almost all the things in life that are worth having are this way.
