Gotta risk it to get the biscuit
As part of my philosophy of “documenting the process,” I also need to document when I come up short. Entrepreneurship is not sunshine and rainbows. The truth is that for the last three weeks, I have been coming up short.
There are a lot of reasons for this. Some are personal, some are family, and some are pragmatic. Ultimately, it comes down to the fact that I have been playing defense.
I have so much I want to say. Where do I start?
It’s Go Time
I’m at an inflection point. Quantum Leads has grown to the stage where I really need to start hiring and bringing in talent to fill specific roles.
The last year and a half has been a grind. I’m grateful to be in a position where I’m no longer stressed about cash flow. I have a very small group of great clients, and now I need to dig deep and go above and beyond to deliver.
Most companies work really hard to be mediocre. I need to be excellent. That is the only way to truly succeed. Excellence.
The Fire Horse
My wife is a bit of a crunchy hippie type.
Jules and I get along so well because we’re opposites in that regard. She talks about Mercury being in retrograde, and I talk about quantum mechanics.
We have a running joke that 2026 is the year life accelerates for us because it is the “year of the fire horse.”
Truth be told, I don’t completely understand what that means, but it has been giving me a lot of strange motivation. Anytime a new challenge arises, I look at Jules and say, “Don’t worry, the fire horse is galloping.”
It’s a little mental trick, but it’s working.
“You Can’t Afford Not To”
The fire horse is just another way of saying that I’m playing offense. In business, you have to take risks and get after it. Playing it safe is like standing still on a down escalator. You have to take massive action because entropy is always pulling you backward to homeostasis.
So, I have been wrestling with the idea of bringing new employees onto the team. I need experts to run my departments.
Specifically, I need a head of operations and a head of strategy.
I was anxious about it and said to Jules, “I don’t know if I can afford to do this right now.”
She immediately replied...
“You can’t afford not to.”
