How I'm Staying In 10X Work
You are the choices you make
While staying in Plymouth, I’ve been evaluating how I spend my time.
I’m trying my best to keep time open for the moments that matter. We’ve been building a routine of going to the beach during low tide in the mornings, when the sandbars are exposed, and the kids can run free. I don’t want to look back at this trip and think, “I wish I hadn’t been so buried in work and had made more memories with my family.”
So, I’ve been ruthlessly auditing my time.
Today, let’s talk about 10X work.
LFG. 🔥
10X Is Easier Than 2X
When I was in Thailand, I read a book called 10X Is Easier Than 2X. This book was a game changer for me because it highlighted that the difference between building a big business and a small business is simply where people choose to spend their time.
Most of us get stuck in 2X work, focusing our time and energy on things that only move the needle linearly. I’m committed to spending my time in places that move the needle exponentially.
10X Work Looks Like This
Building teams instead of doing the work myself: This is challenging because most business owners (including myself) think, “No one will care about my business the way I do.” That’s a scarcity mindset. You have to build a team and put people who are more capable than you in positions of strength and power.
Sales, operations, and growth: To move the needle for my business (and my clients’ businesses), I need to focus on big wins. This means resisting the urge to get involved in every detail. My team can handle the day-to-day without me micromanaging every decision.
Steering the ship: I like to think of this as a mental experiment. If you steer a ship just 1% off course, it might not seem like a big deal, but over days, weeks, and months, that small mistake compounds into being completely off track. Having the mental bandwidth to recalibrate and make those 1% adjustments keeps things moving in the right direction.
Writing, networking, and having conversations: At this stage in my career, nothing is more important. Team building is the foundation, but the biggest jumps in growth, both personally and professionally, come from the conversations you have and the relationships you build.
Discipline Is the Hard Part
Staying in 10X mode means living with a certain level of anxiety. It feels satisfying to jump into the daily grind and put out fires, but that’s not where exponential growth happens.
Was this invoice paid?
Did we reply to this email?
Did we set up this tracking system properly?
These are the questions that eat up mental space, but the key is having the discipline to let my team handle them. Empowering others to own their decisions is critical.
10X work starts with emotional fortitude and discipline. The rest will take care of itself.
Love you guys. Talk to you tomorrow.
