How much will it take?
How much junk do we need before we decide we have enough? Until it fills the void? Until we are satisfied with how we compare to our neighbors?
Amazon sells junk. I know this because there is no cost of entry. Anyone can put junk on Amazon to sell. If the cost is low enough, people will even buy your junk. The lowest quality junk wins the race.
But what about the high quality? What about the things we make that are valuable? What about the hand crafted? The unique? The “one of a kind”? Is there a place left for that?
There is more than enough room for the one of a kind. In fact, in today’s market, it is the only way you can succeed. If you are not one of a kind, then you are just another widget or another spec to be sold for the lowest price. The only thing worse than selling at the lowest price, is selling at the second lowest price. Then where will you be?
We don’t have to re create Picasso. We don’t have to revolutionize an industry. All we have to do is make something for someone. Make a certain thing for a certain kind of person. Be the “go to” for your niche or your industry.
It’s not as tall an order as it seems. The amount of niches or “industries” are limitless. You can be the first.
