My wife went to a used book store and picked up an entire Malcolm Gladwell collection for cheap. I was ecstatic. Malcolm Gladwell is a genius.
It made me think of a quote from Malcolm Gladwell that I discovered when I first read Outliers.
It can be tricky to see the difference between tempory success and deep understanding. To understand something is to prepare yourself for the challenges of the future and to make yourself more valuable in the human marketplace.
Temporary success is to find a hack and time saver and a corner to cut.
Don’t look for shortcuts. Don’t look for “lifehacks.” Don’t look for an easier softer way. Instead, face the difficult challenges in life and prepare yourself to be frustrated and confused and sore.
That’s how you learn and that’s how you understand.
If you seek to understand, you will become indispensable.
