Why Fully Committing Is The Key To Getting What You Want
Half measures avail us nothing
The reason I talk about my sobriety so much is because the lessons I learned in recovery gave me the foundation for how to live my life.
Now, I have a set of rules and principles that I can use as a guide to help me make decisions.
One of those principles is that “half measures availed us nothing.”
Today, I will tell you why that’s pertinent in my business right now. My hope is that you can read this and maybe it will help you make the choices that you haven’t made yet.
“God Is Either Everything Or He Is Nothing”
There is a particular set of literature in recovery communities with the aforementioned quote.
The concept behind this is that you don’t get to decide when you want to have God in your life and when you don’t. In regular life, this usually shows itself by people taking credit for all the good things in their life but blaming circumstance for all the bad things.
So if God (whatever your definition of the word is) can put you in a position to have hardships, then God must also be responsible for the good things.
You can’t have it both ways. It either is or it isn’t. You don’t get to pick and choose.
It is in this particular set of principles that the words “half measures availed us nothing” is also stated. The idea is that if you are going to live a spiritual life of recovery, then you have to do it all the time, not only when it’s convenient.
So you’re either in or your out. You’re committed or you’re not. You can’t be in when it’s convenient and out when it’s not.
The Decision Is The Hardest Part
I realize the example is specific to my own experience, but the way this lesson has manifested in my life is by realizing the importance of making decisions.
If I am feeling anxious, uncertain, or unsure about something, it’s almost always the case that the reason for my anxiety is simply a matter of choice. I usually have something in my life that I haven’t fully committed to, one way or the other.
This sometimes means that I need to fully commit to something, or also that I need to fully remove something from my life.
It’s the choices we haven’t made yet that cause us the most anxiety. Even when things are hard, if you have committed to doing the hard thing in your mind, then suddenly the anxiety disappears.
You know that you are in it for the long haul, and from that moment on, the difficulties are simply part of the journey.
Once you decide, once you make a decision, then it becomes easy.
The Decision I Made
I’ve been writing for months about this vision I have to create TimStodz Media, to build a YouTube following, and to start professionalizing the content I create for the purpose of building my membership community and truly building my personal brand.
It’s been months, if not years, of me dreaming this same dream. But I have been avoiding the decision out of fear and calling it practicality.
Here’s the reality. There is no good time to do anything. Nothing ever lines up perfectly.
I have many challenges in my life right now, but the biggest challenge I am facing is the one in my mind, taking up space and getting in the way of being my truest authentic self.
Last week, I made the choice. Now I am ready to do the damned thing.
The hard part is done. Now the universe will get out of my way.
Love you guys. Talk to you tomorrow.
Tim
