Why You May Not Want To Quit Your Job When Starting Your Own Business
Here's the deal.
If you want to truly succeed as a business owner, chances are you will need to give it your full focus. It will probably require all of your time and then some. But, no one said you had to quit your job and dive in head first. Usually it goes something like this...
"I'm ready Tim. I quit my job so I can give this all of my attention. This is what I want to do with my life so I decided to fully commit. Now I need to make some money."
I love when people give their full commitment, but I always advocate keeping a job if possible. More often then not, that same person has to put their tail between their legs and find another job because they didn't follow the most important rule in building an online business.
Create an audience first.
I have been through this a million times. It is much easier to sell products or services to an audience that already has interest in what you have to say. The mistake most people make is they build a product or a service first and then go "okay, who wants to buy this?"
Let me give you some more specific reasons why it may be a good idea to hang onto your 9-5.
You Have to Pay the Bills
It's really that simple.
A truly successful business can take months or even years to get enough traction and be bringing in enough revenue to make a living from. I highly doubt your electric company is going to give you a few months free power while you get your new business off the ground.
You have to be practical.
If you go broke, then your new online business will definitely fail.
Not to mention, creating a new business will have expenses within itself that need to be paid for. For instance...
you will probably need to buy a website theme or hire a new designer
you will need to pay for hosting to get your site live on the internet
you may need to buy some tools and features for your marketing
The point is, you can't completely stop your cash flow coming in. Everyone has bills to pay and everyone needs to continue living their lives.
There is Plenty of Time in the Day
Most people don't want to believe this, but there is plenty of time in the day to work a full time job as well as run a business on the side.
When I first started my business, I would work from 9-5 and I would come home and work on my own business from 6-11 AND I still had time to exercise and go for a run at night.
If you are really serious about building your own online business, you are going to have to work your butt off. Expect to be working a lot. I mean a whole lot.
It is a sacrifice, but the pay off is so worth it.
Imagine what it would be like it you were able to build a profitable business on the side while never losing your income. Imagine how much more money you would make if you were able to automate your online business and turn it into passive income while continuing to go to work everyday?
That is some real money.
Now you have the option to quit your job if you like. It is always better to have options. It is always better to be in a position where you can chose what you want in your life.
Yes, there may be some real sacrifice in the beginning, but the short term sacrifice could potentially turn into some real long term value. Never forget that.
You May Really Like Your Job
I read an amazing story a few months back.
It was about a man named Ramesh Babu. He was born into a very poor family and his father died when he was 7 years old. Ramesh struggled to support his family and became a barber, just like his father.
Over the years, Ramesh started a car rental service on the side. Eventually, Rabesh was able to afford two Rolls Royce cars and he remains the only car rental service that has top luxury cars like that. These days, Rabesh is a multi millionaire and through the years, he never quit his job as a barber.
You may be in a similar position. I know plenty of people who really enjoy their day jobs but have other ambitions.
Who says you have to chose between one or the other?
What's important is that you get started.
There will never be a perfect time to take the risk and start your own company. There are some very important first steps that need to be taken. The question is, will you take the steps? I can help you get started.
Are you ready to take this seriously? Are you tired of waiting around for something to happen? Building a successful business is one of the most rewarding things you can do with your life.
Let me help you take the initial steps. The future is truly limitless.
