This is so disappointing to read. I've been following Tim for a long time and even paid for a membership to his various courses. I don't want to know or hear about his politics or anyone's politics. That's the problem. This country has become too political. It was never like this when I was growing up. On one hand Tim says he doesn't want to share his politics for business reasons but he'll talk politics here forgetting that part of his business are people following him and paying him for his business courses. If any Christian or conservative is following Tim or paying for his courses, he has in effect offended you and he doesn't care. If you believe the stats, we are a 50/50 country. That means right out of the gate half the country strongly disagrees with you on just about everything. Why then would you purposely go out of your way to offend half your audience? It makes no sense to me. As a Christian conservative, I wish I had the luxury. Just by leaving this comment I'll be ostracized, called this or that, and effectively told to take a hike. Yet, people on the left can spew their political opinions and offend half their audience without consequence. Up until now, I really thought Tim was a different guy. I knew he was a very progressive guy, but I admired that he NEVER talked politics. It was refreshing. It was just great business content. Now with this post Tim has effectively told me to take a hike. Again, I ask, why? Why does everyone insist on talking politics and telling half their audience to take a hike? It boggles my mind.

I will also add that literally everything Tim has spewed about Trump is false. These are accusations that came from anonymous and unverified tips. There have been no investigations on any of this because there is nothing behind the accusations. Do you really think the President of the United States did these things? Seriously? At the very least, please dive deep into the facts. Don't just swallow what the media and left are telling you. Spend time doing your own research. Dig deep. Investigate if it bothers you so much. But literally everything you've spewed here is simply not fact. You also left out all the people on the left that have been highlighted in the latest document dump such as Bill Gates, George Clooney, and Bill Clinton. You know what my reaction was? "Hmmm. Interesting. Let's see how all this unfolds over time." In other words, I didn't boast or freak out. I actually wait for the facts to unfold and see where things land. And one thing I never do is spew my anger, opinions, etc. to my clients, friends, or even family. At the end of the day, my opinion and thoughts don't matter. The world will do what the world does. I'm called to love Him and love others - period. To that end, I strive not to offend others. I strive not to spew my opinions on political matters that I know will just anger others and create unnecessary division.

Now that Tim has taken a political stand, I can't follow him or trust him anymore because I know he'd clearly be against me because I disagree with him. Such is the state of the country today. It's sad. And it's so unnecessary. I just ask that everyone keep their mouth shut about politics and just stick with what product or service you sell!

I'm not ostracizing you. Nor did I mention anything about Christians or conservatives, so I'm not sure where you're getting that from. Nor do I think I told anyone to take a hike.

The only political statement I made was that the president and people in the presidents cabinets were involved in a child sex traffic ring. But that's not a political statement, more so a statement of fact. Not to mention half the people on that list, such as Reid Hoffman and Bill Gates or pretty well established in the democratic party.

I don't judge anyone for their beliefs, religious or political. I do judge people who rape little girls though.

I'm grateful for you for being a part of my community and I will do my best to continue serving the world in the best way I know how going forward.

Oh wow. I'm just now reading your edited statement. To clarify, I did mention bill gates and hoffman. I should have added clinton. and the statement is a sworn testimony verified under the department of justice. and it's only one statement of many. Seems like this is a very touchy subject for you, which I appreciate.

Although it's ironic that you said in your first statement before you edited it, that you would be ostracized. When it seems as though you're ostracizing me?

Thank you for this, Tim. I’m so glad to read an honest evaluation of this crazy moment, and it gives me hope to see an example of balanced, strong, caring, positive male energy. I wish more men would share stuff like this and call out the sickness that seems pervasive among so many rich and powerful men. There needs to be ethics and humanity and accountability, and this is how we get there, one person at a time forming a collective.

Everything is political and largely influences how we live. People are entitled to live with thier heads in the sand if they want to when children are targeted and profit wars rage. But to have a meltdown because you posted ONCE about the most horrible shit we've ever seen, knowing full well you run an transparency-centered operation here, frankly is pathetic. Fuck these people.

Tim Stoddart's avatar

Damn thanks for this. I legit reread what I wrote because I was like “I swear the point of my article was that I don’t want to participate in the shit throwing.”

I see a lot of mental gymnastics, watching what seem to be very reasonable people, desperately clinging to a worldview that is clearly flawed, corrupt, and pretty horrific.

Appreciate the feedback and thanks for helping me see that my argument was presented in the manner in which I intended.

Man, you're good. Some of these comments are wild.

Appreciate you addressing this and the framing you use for decisions like that. More than that though, I appreciate the effort you and Juliana are making to raise thoughtful, confident, and kind humans. Of all the things people discuss and share, raising good humans with critical thinking skills is a direct benefit to all of us.

I do my best to focus on change that I want to see in the world and what it is that I can do to make change happen. Sharing disgusting details of other people’s bad behavior, like you did in this email, doesn’t seem to make things better for the collective. I’m sympathetic to the pain and suffering and anger other people feel as a result of the news but adding to it by sharing the ugly details just makes it a whole lot worse in my opinion. I follow you for smart, uplifting business content. A little disappointed with what I read today.

Tim Stoddart's avatar

More smart business content to come. It had to go somewhere and I value you following me for my insights.

Here's an idea, Tim. If it bothers you so much, spend time looking into all of the things that concern you. There are lots of "bad" things going on on both sides of the fence - and a lot of it simply isn't true. Dig deep and research the issues that bother you on BOTH sides of the fence. You will likely discover that a lot of what you read and hear about isn't even true. But I encourage you to go down rabbit holes and learn. Don't just spew talking points. The politicians and business leaders on the left have just as much baggage as those on the right. Sooner or later you'll realize you have ZERO power over any of it. Sure, you can get angry, spout your opinions, and make people angry and create division in the process, but why do that? Just learn, educate yourself, and just love. Love your family. Love your friends. Love your neighbors. Love your clients. And part of loving is not offending and making people angry. I've enjoyed following you these past few years, but I'll have to move on. I appreciate what I've learned from you over the years and I admire you for what you've accomplished, but I can't in good conscience continue to support you. I would encourage you to just stick to business moving forward. As Michael Jordan once said, "Republicans buy sneakers too." Good luck to you and God Bless.

Do not share your politics unless you are writing a political site. I can read all I want elsewhere from the extremist left and right and mostly I don't. I recently unsubscribed from an author whose Substack I enjoyed and valued because she went down this path. Most of what we read from mainstream media is at best slanted lies and at worst malicious bullshit and when we repeat it it just makes it all worse. Personally, I am actively subtracting lies and bullshit from my life.

Tim Stoddart's avatar

What was the substack you unsubscribed from?

Mark Caley's avatar

Don’t want to say publicly but it was specifically for writers.

Ok, we get it. you don't like Trump (understandably). You also let media control your thoughts and you like to get emotional over it. This is weak behavior and I'm a little shocked by this. If the media is talking about it, it's not news. It's propaganda and/or a distraction. There is no news anymore. Just influence and persuasion. It's been like this for quite a while now. And you just suck it up, let it control your emotions and spit it right back out into the world. this is why you're anxious and feel like shit.

Tim Stoddart's avatar

I'm not anxious and I don't feel like shit. It seems to me like you're having a very defensive reaction to statements that I never even said.

But I appreciate you're insight.

Trey Rollo's avatar

I’m just going off your own words, Tim—you mentioned walking around with anger and feeling anxious about publishing the post. Defensive? you're projecting. My point is that the modern media is designed to produce exactly those feelings. It’s not an attack on you, but an observation on how effectively these narratives 'own' our headspace if we let them.

Tim Stoddart's avatar

Ah anxious about publishing the post. Understood. Yeah I hear you man and it’s def something to be mindful of. But idk when it comes to a sex trafficking ring if little girls I think we gotta take official documents from the DOJ seriously.

Trey Rollo's avatar

Fair point on the DOJ documents. I guess my question is: take it seriously, how? Beyond writing posts or deleting apps, what is there to actually do with that info? If there’s no clear action to take (vote harder, maybe?), it’s just more noise designed to drain your energy. I’d rather see you stay focused on the mission and keep your eyes on the prize. I’ll leave it at that—keep crushing the business goals.

As someone who’s been reading your writing and taking your advice for many years, I’ve got to say I was really quite surprised with what you wrote here. I thought maybe I had missed some major news story.

While I think business owners and people giving business advice have every right to make political statements, it’s very damaging to your credibility when you throw out a statement like: “We have seen sworn written testimony that President Trump would molest little girls and touch their vaginas to decide if they were ‘tight enough’.” I would implore people to fact check that statement for themselves.

The allegation you’re referring to is NOT sworn written testimony. It’s from an anonymous tip that was kept on file. Any member of the public can pick up the phone, call the FBI, and provide an anonymous tip saying the most salacious and damaging thing about any public official. It does not make it true.

As someone who finds himself disagreeing with the right as often as I do the left, saying these kinds of false statements is what has caused Trump to become this invincible to criticism from the media in the first place (starting all the way back with the Steele dossier). It completely waters down the impact of any one statement or accusation because his supporters can look at this and say: “These people lied about this, and they’re lying about everything else too!” I think there’s enough to critique about Trump when you look at the grifting he’s done around crypto and the way he sold out his supporters when it came to healthcare and more than a dozen other issues.

Like I said - I’m totally ok with political statements and would happily buy stuff from left-leaning or right-leaning business experts. But, if the person I’m buying from starts reframing anonymous tips as ‘sworn testimony’, I will think twice before believing anything else they have to say on any subject.

Thanks for sharing, Tim! It is refreshing to see someone who is successful in business also have strong, positive values and the spine to speak up against injustice. I keep enjoying your content more and more, and find value in every lesson, newsletter, post, or YouTube video you share. I am glad I found your courses and proud to be learning from you. I am also proud to share your work with others because, from what I have seen, you respect women and have a strong moral compass, which gives me confidence in supporting your work.

As for the negative noise, I just wanted to share that I once heard someone say that when people tell you not to get political, they are really asking you to protect their comfort. It is worth asking why that discomfort exists, especially when the Bible consistently calls people to speak up when something is wrong. I'm not very religious, but makes sense.

Anyway, thank you for being a rockstar!
