I have never been a believer in short-form videos. Looking at my own experience, I cannot think of a single action I have taken or even a single piece of valuable information I have walked away with after watching a video on YouTube Shorts or Instagram Reels.
But the truth is, I have never taken the time to determine whether they are an effective marketing tool.
Today, I am analyzing the limited data I have to determine whether you should be publishing short-form videos.

Basic Data on Views
Isaac and I started producing short-form videos on February 17. Since then, we have published 10 videos, all of which align with my brand.
Once a month, Isaac puts together a list of questions, and we sit down for an hour to record my responses. Then he turns those responses into short-form videos.
Here is a data set of the videos and their views.
There is one anomaly that received a little more than 10 views. However, even including that video, the average views per video were 463.
That is a lot better than I expected.
You can also see a noticeable increase in views once we started publishing shorts.
Basic Data on Subscribers
Even after basic data analysis, it is clear that shorts have impacted subscriber growth.
Look at the significant uptick in subscribers that have come from the shorts. In total, I have gained 15 new subscribers from these videos. The two subscribers at the beginning of the graph are random subscribers from workout videos I posted over the last two years.
It is hard to deny the value.
How New Subscribers Are Finding My Channel
People are scrolling through YouTube, the algorithm serves them my video, and they stay long enough to become subscribers.
The "interested graph" works. I hate to admit it, but it works.
People are finding me through the feed, which means these are all new viewers who did not previously know I existed. Some of them stick around after discovering my content.
I have generated 4,633 total views from YouTube Shorts, and 15 of those views have become subscribers. That means it takes 308 views to get a new subscriber.
That is about one new subscriber per video.
Is It Worth It?
Yes, I think it is.
What is important to remember is that this all compounds. I only have 5.9k subscribers, so the growth numbers seem small in comparison.
But if I stick to this process for a full year? Based on my projections from last week’s article, I should have 15,000 subscribers by this time next year.
I am going to keep publishing shorts.

Ideally, shorts serve as a bridge to your longer content and it sounds like that is what you are experiencing. I think your target of 15k subscribers by next year is way lower than it should be.
