How to Link Out to Websites on Snapchat
Snapchat has made a pretty big move. Snapchat has recently released what they are calling the "paperclip" function. Named after the paperclip icon that usually signifies adding a link to a piece of content. In order to compete with Instagram, Snapchat finally added this feature after much time of deliberation. We can assume that this was a forced move to compete with Instagram stories. However, there is a huge difference in the way the two platforms are using this feature. On Instagram, the "swipe up" feature can be used only by accounts that are verified. Usually verification requires you to have a large audience. Probably in the hundreds of thousands. On Snapchat, you don't need to have a substantial audience. Anyone, regardless of their following, can now link out to external websites. This causes some concern over spam and malware. How will Snapchat stay on top of the inevitable spam bots that are going to flood the platform? How are they going to stay on top of links to porn sites? We are looking forward to finding out.
