As most of you know, I’ve developed a partnership with my idol working on a site called Your Boulder. It’s been a great project and I am really excited about the growth.
Traffic is up, social media following is up, SEO is way up… things are going well. The problem is that I haven’t been generating enough sales.
Finally, I’m saying enough is enough. This week I got busy and I started doing what I do best.
I started calling strangers, introducing myself, getting connected, finding partnerships and potential collaborations. I’m getting on my horse and I’m after the money.
I think it’s important that we talk about this more often. Our world is so polluted with likes and “attention” and shares. But a business without sales isn’t a business, it’s just a really expensive hobby. We lose sight of that.
You can be good at sales without being sleazy or manipulative. All the best salespeople I know (people like Butcher, Foof, the CMO at JourneyPure and myself) build a sales reputation by providing value.
The value comes first, the sale comes second.
No matter how big things get, we need to always be willing to get after the money. We need to be willing to do the grunt work. We must be willing to get hung up on and to be told no 100 times to get the 1 yes. It’s part of the process.
If you’re not hunting than what are you doing? The hunter is the most valuable member of the tribe.
